Don’t you need to be…you know, physical, to benefit from Physical therapy?
That’s what I thought when I first heard of physical therapists exploring the telehealth realm. However, as I look back on my 10 years of experience as an outpatient physical therapist, this is not always true. Many of my clients feel great with my hands on skills that I’ve honed over the years. However, when I really reflect and think about it, most of my clients have the best, and true long term benefits with the coaching, guidance, education, and instruction that I provide through our sessions. In some instances, a hands-on component is definitely important and necessary. In these instances, I will make sure to refer you to the most appropriate people for the job. However, for most injuries, aches, and pains, YOU are able to take your care into your own hands. You just need the knowledge, guidance, and know-how.
That’s where I come in.
Whether its an recent injury, an ache or pain that you’ve been dealing with for years, or if you just have questions or concerns about getting back to an activity, I’m here to help you. During our initial evaluation, I’ll be asking you about why you’re here (obviously), and to be able to get to know you and your goals a little better. I will be asking you specific questions that will give me an idea of what’s going on. I’ll then ask you to do some movements, some that may painful, some that may decrease your pain, and some that may seem right out silly. This is where the video aspect of our visits come into play. Physical therapists are movement specialists. I have spent years analyzing movements, from simple sitting to standing, to squatting, to jumping and running activities to help pinpoint where your problem may be coming from. From this evaluation, we’ll hatch a plan together to get you back to the life you want to live.
Our follow up appointments will vary, depending on our initial plan. Typically, they will consist of a follow up on how you’re doing with some of the activities you have problems with, progression of the exercises that we go over on the first visit (yes, there will be homework). This also is a great time for you to ask me any questions you may have. We’ll meet as often or as little as you’d like, and we’ll talk about the best plan for you.
The best part of a telehealth model of physical therapy is that I will be available for you when you need me, even when we’re not meeting face to face. Shoot me a text, e-mail, or even phone call if you have questions, and I’ll get back to you within 24 hours. You won’t go through a automated menu, or a front office staff and get your message passed to me via sticky note (that’s really how it’s done most of the time). You’ll get MY contact information.
It’s time that you have control of your health. I’m just here to help you.
Still not sure? Schedule a consult to see if this is for you.
I can’t wait to meet you!
